How do you archive and organize the complete history of one of the world’s largest football leagues?

In 2006, the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) together with the Deutscher Fußball Bund (DFB) asked exactly this question. Their plan was to create a unique digital video archive that contained all matches back to the league foundation in 1963 and initiated the “Media Library” project.

All in all more than 45 years of soccer history, with over 40,000 hours of historic film and video footage are stored on a server with a storage capacity of 2,600,000 Gigabyte (2.6 PB).
