Viz Engine and Viz Artist 3.8: More creativity, and video and graphics flexibility

The latest version of Viz Engine and Viz Artist provides several new features to give the designer new creative flexibility and create a more robust compositing engine.

Viz Engine is Vizrt’s real-time 3D compositing engine. Viz Artist gives designers a tool for creating real-time graphics to be used in each of Vizrt’s broadcast graphics systems.

Support of Xmio.3 video card

Viz Engine 3.8.0 supports the all-new Matrox X.mio3. This card features a PCI-E Gen 2 interface, 2GB of RAM and at least twice the performance in every aspect, compared to older models of the X.mio series. Depending on the card you can have up to 12 HD-SDI connectors set to various configurations. With X.mio3, Viz Engine is capable of providing a full 4k/UHD workflow with one live input, one fill/key output, 4k/UHD clip playback and graphics. Additionally, it is possible to run more than two channels on one card for the first time.

New cascaded shadow mapping

With cascaded shadow maps a new improved shadow algorithm has been implemented into Viz Artist 3.8.0. The new shadowing has better quality than previous approaches and higher performance than the old soft-shadow rendering. Designers can directly activate this technique on global scene lights and also on per-object basis to achieve a higher quality lighting and more realism in their scenes.

New Substance Shader plugin

The Substance Shader plugin (license required) for Viz Artist brings the power of Allegorithmic Substances–as does Maxon Cinema4D for added integration of materials with Viz Artist–and its Physically Based Rendering shader to Viz Engine. Substances are used to generate high-quality textures and allow artists to tweak the look of the resulting textures in real-time. This greatly speeds up the workflow by eliminating the need to re-author textures just to change a color or add more rust to a metal surface and enables our users to quickly and efficiently deliver a unique experience to the audience.

New bookmark view in Viz Artist

Viz Artist has had the ability to bookmark folders and projects in the Server View for several versions. This makes it easier to find often used folders in Viz Artist. But Graphics Hub assets can still become cluttered with imports for archives and over time with regular scene design. Now it is possible to view all bookmarked folders and projects in one special view for a better overview in big database folder structures. Within the new Bookmark View you can reduce the server tree to a personal defined flat structure of folders and projects. It also gives you quick access to the parent folders of your current view if required. This is a great new functionality for finding graphic hub items and organizing the personal data.

Advanced Adobe After Effects project import

Designers now get more out of the integration between Adobe After Effects CC and Viz Artist. Adobe After Effects CC compositions are easily imported into Viz Artist with a multi-layer composition import tool. The new version of the importer includes native support for nested compositions as well as support for paragraph text layers. Additionally, control text and control image plugins are automatically assigned creating a fast transition from Adobe After Effects composition to a template ready for on-air use in Viz Artist.

New streaming services

The Viz Engine streaming interface has undergone a major rework opening new possibilities for internal development, but also opening the door for 3rd party streaming services. The interface provides production quality low latency entry and exit points, enabling the use of J2K, SMPTE-2022 or Sony LLC. Together with 3.8 J2K in Mpeg2-TS will be available as a service. The others will follow shortly without the need to update Viz Engine versions.

Softclip with 64bit versions

Many of our customers are using Softclip for decoration clips in their scenes. Viz Engine 3.8 brings softclip to the 64bit environment, enabling this platform for users who could not switch to 64bit because of this limitation.

Viz Libero Integration

Viz Libero is now more integrated with Viz Engine than ever before. The integration allows designers to be much more flexible in designing annotation graphics and operators to get the preview and the performance they need. A new streaming mechanism and a reworked control channel interface was developed for Viz Libero to allow this new degree of flexibility.
