Viz One 6.0

Viz One 6.0 is a major release of Vizrt’s media asset management system. The release includes more than twenty new features and is available with a simplified licensing model.

Highlights include a new refreshed look & feel, extensive UX improvements, Sony XAVC UHD support and additional tools for clearing our customers’ route toward a hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Look & Feel

Refreshed look and feel in Viz One Studio

The Viz One client, Studio, now has a new ‘Carbon’ theme, in accordance with the main theme used throughout the entire Vizrt product family. The new theme also comes with a new set of icons, providing a cleaner, more streamlined look and feel.

Alternatively, a user can select a previous Viz One theme, if preferred.

UX improvements

Added support for customization of Item overview

Media metadata can be stored and displayed with varying degrees of granularity in Viz One. On an Item page, a summary of standard media item metadata is always listed next to the video player. Customers can now select for themselves the precise content of this overview.

Improved Rundown page view

This version of Viz One introduces improved usability of the Studio Rundown view. The user can now define their own Rundown views, selecting preferred columns and metadata to suit the current programming or news show.

Faster browsing & editing with keyboard macros in Viz One Studio

A Studio user can now define keyboard-based macros that enable more efficient working with tasks involving navigation, editing and logging. Users can choose to make their macros available on the main Item page and tailor them to specific item metadata, making it extremely useful in speeding-up video production in Studio.

Other UX improvements

Other UX improvements include improved thumbnail rendering for images with alpha, making it easier for users to visualize their images that contain alpha. Another usability improvement is an updated and simpler end-user metadata form (VDF) editor.

Enhanced federated media exchange

Federated media exchange simplifies the exchange of assets across different departments and offices. Users could previously schedule transfer of copies of high-resolution media, monitor transfer progress, and register a new asset with current metadata.

With version 6.0, a user can additionally transfer the low-res/keyframes along with the hi-res file, enabling them to start working on the remote asset from a local system.

Added tools for hybrid cloud infrastructure

Viz One now supports the use of 3rd party authentication systems that can pass an encoded JSON Web Token (JWT) to Viz One. This enables customers to provide a secure public access to Viz One Studio, simplifying remote access to content stored in Viz One. This feature together with previous cloud features such as AWS S3 support, provides a powerful toolset to deliver Viz One in a hybrid cloud infrastructure. In subsequent releases, Viz One will continue to provide tools for hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Improved gathering of data for analytics

One of the most important uses of Viz One is to create smart reports of the large amount of data sets stored in the system. To improve efficiency, changes have been made to the way Viz One stores data sets, specifically audit trail data. The audit trail data set can become particularly large, especially in enterprise environments. This version of Viz One reduces the space used by saving the data in a more optimized form. Additionally, 6.0 employs a more intelligent selection of what is audited; previous versions accumulated substantial audit data that provided little logical value.

Advanced PostgreSQL support

Viz One supports PostgreSQL 9.5 database, offering a potential decrease on IT costs, when compared with alternative enterprise database solutions. Viz One 6.0 comes with all functionality required for running both a multi-server and redundant system.

Added support for Sony XAVC UHD and ProRes with 4K

As of Viz One 6.0, all profiles of Sony XAVC are supported, enabling a full end-to-end UHD workflow. This means customers have access to a complete set of standard functionality like file import, proxy generation, editing, conform, and partial restore.

In addition, ProRes 4K support with frame rates 50p and 59.94p is now available with this version of Viz One.

High-quality proxy media with Coder for XDCAM and DV family

Vizrt’s transcoder, Coder was previously used for proxy generation of Apple ProRes.

In this release, Coder now handles a broader range of popular media formats, such as the XDCAM and DV format family.

Employing Coder brings several enhancements like improved proxy quality, reliable scene detection and more efficient H.264 transcoding.

Additional formats and related improvements

This version of Viz One also includes support for AVC-Intra 50 1080p25/29.97 and AVC-Intra 100 1080p25/29.97. An additional format support is SCC (as an auxiliary file).

Coder also adds additional functionality to Viz One,  with features like enabling rewrapping of MXF to MOV and exporting a copy of the source media as the same export job. This enables added flexibility when exporting media from Viz One.

Faster access to media when ingesting with Viz Dart

High-res media is now registered by Viz Dart much faster. This provides significant benefit to users, who can open and edit growing files earlier. This improvement applies to both Crash recordings and Scheduled recordings.
