Viz Artist and Viz Engine 3.5.3

We are pleased to announce the release of Viz Artist / Viz Engine 3.5.3. This release is a maintenance release and is recommended for users upgrading from Viz Engine and/or Viz Artist 3.x and for new installations.

Improvements

  • Improved shared memory settings to the configuration interface.

  • Improved support for audio clip playback via http.

  • You now have separate width and height values for Safe and Title area. Default values are now changed to recommended values.

  • You can now search the Scene Tree for containers by parameter name, value or plugin name.

  • Viz Artist will now show a message box when editing a scene that was saved with a later version of Viz Engine. This should prevent users from accidentally saving the scene and potentially losing scene features that cannot be stored with the current version of Viz Engine.

  • The format mask in the AdvancedCounter plug-in now allows more special characters.

  • Improved stereo 3D settings to include textures and background image.

Fixed Issues

  • Picking of text geometries now works.

  • In rare cases the content of the VGA preview or Scene Editor could flash into the video output. Only NVidia SDI output in combination with a VGA preview smaller than HD, turned on Free Images and Free Image Data options as well as requests for invalid textures can trigger this rare case.

  • Viz Engine could freeze when the configuration option AsynchronousGeometryAssignment was active, and the video output rendering was deactivated (by calling RENDERER*UPDATE SET 0).

  • Softclip frames served via a Projector plugin were not updated in a ProjectionTarget if the Show option was turned off in the Projector plugin.

  • Some Web images took over 10 seconds to load.

  • CONTINUE_IGNORE_NEXT_STOP did not actually ignore the next stop point.

  • The first combobox in a plugin property editor did not always update its selection properly.

  • Optimized Softclip frame preloading. (3544)

  • Performance optimization for SoftClip for repeating the last video frame in Live Play mode.

  • The LineChart plugin could cause crashes with old scenes.

  • Post rending in RGB with Quicktime Animation or Quicktime Uncompressed format produced a brighter output than in Viz Engine 3.3 caused by an issue in Quicktime. An Input Gamma option has been introduced in the plugin to compensate the problem. For Quicktime Animation and Quicktime Uncompressed the Input Gamma option is activated by default.

  • Reduced the Clones Count default value in the Cloner plugin to a reasonable value in order to avoid an application freeze.

  • Text bounding-box calculation broken in rare cases since Viz Engine version 3.5.1.

  • Crash when sending RENDERER REDRAW to Viz Engine while ClipOut was active.

  • Renamed outdated TargaChannel entries to VideoInput for the Stage Editor's Stage Tree context menu.

  • License issue with inputs when no number of input channels were specified.

  • The information dialog box was sometimes behind the VGA preview, making it impossible to close.

  • Possible freeze when reconnecting to the database when connection logging was enabled.

  • Audio playback via redirected URLs did not work.

  • Updated configuration examples for Viz Trio setups with two graphics cards (turned off renderer synchronization as required).

  • Allow use of Defocus / Depth of Field shader from Viz Engine 3.2.x for compatibility (set configuration flag UseNewDefocus to 0).

  • RENDERER SYNC_DISPLAYS did not work with AMD/ATI drivers 8.982 or later (only the first adapter was configured).

  • With the NVidia SDI card the synchronization bit for embedded audio was not set in proper intervals. The NVidia driver unfortunately does not set the bit by itself.

  • Fixed potential crash during clip playback via Matrox card.

  • ControlVideo could not clear clip channels.

  • Low level noise on sound card output with video output frame rate 59.94Hz, especially in conjunction with NVidia SDI card.

  • The output is only rendered at the half height when ringing filter and hq_sd_format were enabled.

  • Sporadic errors in the console during startup of Matrox + NVidia SDI combination.

  • Scene icon was wrong right after scene load for Polygon in conjunction with AutoFollow.

  • Bounding-box for key not displayed correctly in Viz Trio preview when the preview format was different from the output format.

  • When copying a script with animated parameters, the copy lost its animation.

  • The Control panel showed escape codes for colons contained in a Control plugin description field.

  • Picking did not work on inverted masks.

  • TFxPlusPlus did not work for the specific Japanese symbols.

  • If the bounding-box of the RFXSmoke plugin was out of the design area, the object disappeared.

  • The stage color changed when a material was on the same container as a SoftClip plugin.

  • Loading of scenes were very slow with ImageClip and a large number of images files.

  • Could not set VideoClip plug-in target to Texture.

  • Cyclic references with ViewPort Tiles could freeze the database system in rare cases.

  • TextFX did not work properly when culling was enabled.

  • Post-render profiles could not be loaded by more than one user at a time.

  • Small memory leak when loading scenes.

  • Live inputs need to get disabled while post-rendering.

  • Image preloading did not fully work in rare cases.

  • Text bounding box was,  in rare cases, broken for Viz Engine versions 3.2.5 and later.

  • The Matrox clip player did,  in rare cases, not pause at a stop point.

  • Ease-points for Viz Trio scrollers did not work for Viz Trio versions 2.10.2 or later.

  • A configuration flag ClearRelatedSelfLayers has been introduced to avoid clearing related layers when removing a self-layer scene from the main layer. This is on by default.

  • Embedded audio via NVidia SDI did not work when a Matrox card was active as well.

  • Rare timeouts when importing large archives.

  • Masks were not always considered for snapshots.

Important Notes

  • When using a Matrox video card, uninstall old drivers before installing driver 7.5.2.1448, and only install the driver from a local disk. The driver is available on the Vizrt FTP (login required). Viz Engine still works with older 7.5.2 drivers, but 7.5.2.1448 solves an embedded audio issue, and it allows switching between 7.5.2 (for Viz Engine 3.3.x and 3.5.x) and 9.2 without rebooting the machine.
