Graphics Plugin 1.7

The latest Graphics Plugin Plugin for Apple's Final Cut Studio and Avid's non-linear editing suites is a minor release. It is recommended for new installations and those who require the new features and/or fixed issues. If you plan to upgrade from an older version, it is recommended to upgrade to this version. This version also comes with support for the new Viz Connection Broker which allows you to connect to a "pool" of Viz Engine render engines.

New Features

  • Viz Connection Broker - The Viz Connection Broker is a new server component for automatic assignment of Viz Engines from a pool of render engines. The pool of available Viz Engines is configured through a simple web page, and allows the Graphics Plugin plugin to select an available Viz Engine matching the current project video mode. It is still possible to select a Viz Engine manually instead of using the Viz Connection Broker.
  • New Viz Trio version - The bundled Viz Trio version launched from the Graphics Plugin plugin for Windows has been upgraded from 2.7 to 2.10. The basic workflow is still the same in the new version.
  • Performance Testing - The performance tester is still part of the Graphics Plugin configuration tool, but is now shown in a separate window instead of a tab page. This was done in order to avoid confusion about the OK, Cancel and Revert All buttons in the main windows.
  • Documentation - Documentation in HTML format is now available, and can for Windows users be opened by clicking the Help button, or pressing F1, in the configuration tool. For Mac users the documentation can be opened through both Graphics Plugin Editor and Graphics Plugin Config, using the Help -> Documentation menu item.
  • Pre-multiplying alpha - You can now configure whether the plugins will pre-multiply alpha or not when rendering. In some cases the Viz Engine has already multiplied the color channels with the alpha channel. In those cases, set it to false.
  • Automatic reloading of changed graphics - After selecting an element using Viz Trio or Viz Pilot, the Graphics Plugin plugin will make sure the template scene is refreshed so that the newest version of the scene is rendered. Note that returning from the editor is somewhat slower due to this change.
  • Import of Trio XML pages (only for Final Cut) - The Graphics Plugin Editor now supports importing pages and templates from an xml file generated by Viz Trio.
  • Numeric tabfields in Graphics Plugin Editor (only for Final Cut) - The Graphics Plugin Editor now supports numeric tabfields, which are commonly used to adjust the size and position of images in Viz Artist, and control kerning of text.
  • Concept and Variant in Graphics Plugin Editor (only for Final Cut) - The Graphics Plugin Editor now has support for Concepts and Variants, allowing different scene designs to be encompassed by the same template.

Functionality Removed or Changed

Some settings and default parameters have changed, improved performance and simplified the workflow for most users.  Changes since the previous versions include:

  • The default Viz Engine network compression is now run-length encoding (RLE)
  • The default Viz Engine prefetch size has been increased to 20
  • The default Viz Engine network timeout has been increased to 45 seconds
  • Viz Trio's Config button is now enabled by default. To disable it, remove "-control" from Viz Trio's NLE Options in the Graphics Plugin Config tool
  • Error messages from the Vizrt system will no longer be displayed in Avid's preview window
