Media Asset Management (MAM) for broadcast and online
Viz One is a Media Asset Management system for broadcast and online. Viz One manages all your assets using - metadata, search, proxy-editing, load balancing, and integrations with all major systems. Staff can produce video files for broadcast and online in a seamless workflow – with access from their PC or Mac desktops. The system is in use for a wide variety of production types - including; news, sports, archive, online, promo, and program-preparation. Viz One's technology comes from more than 15 years of experience in the MAM industry and is used in more than 200 installations worldwide.
Viz One can be used for basic MAM applications - such as a single clip store server managing video and stills for playout - as well as large enterprise MAM systems running on hundreds of servers handling news, sports, archive, online, promo, and program-preparation.

Viz One makes it easy for users across your entire organization to find, upload, preview, log, cut, send, and manage media. The primary application, Studio, is web-based and accessible from any desktop. Staff can edit and approve media remotely. The newsroom plug-in sits within existing iNews, ENPS or Octopus clients. The best-in-class REST API is available for anyone to use in building an integration or add-on.

Viz One sits at the center of your broadcast production and helps coordinate media workflows. It integrates with leading third-party newsroom, nonlinear editing, transcoding, and storage products. A comprehensive REST API is available for anyone to use in building an integration or add-on.

The built-in storage and transfer management system enables optimal use of existing resources and future expansions. The system automatically manages media on multiple storages including LTO archives, object storage, and cloud storage.

Users in any department can check the availability and status of media directly from their desktop - or even remotely. They can instantly see if media is being used in other contexts, when an asset was last used, and if special restrictions apply. After finding a suitable assets, users rough-cut it right on their desktop. Using rules controlled by our workflow engine media can be automatically assigned to the relevant departments an assets proceeds in the production workflow.

The workflow engine can handle any type of production workflow. It is preconfigured to handle common production workflows such as ingest, compliance, branding, and multi-platform delivery. The workflow engine uses the powerful REST APIs of Viz One to ensures smooth integration with existing third party systems.
MAM is a long-term investment
Nobody can say for sure what the technical requirements for a media asset management system will be in five to ten years time. What we do know is that the current state-of-the-art is having a comprehensive REST API built on a fast event-driven architecture that can scale to address the known demands to a future system. Our system has been proven to scale for several tens of years of assets and more than 1,000 users. It is extremely adaptable and expandable and has a strong track record in multi-departmental enterprise spanning MAM.
Efficiently produce video for broadcast and online in one workflow
Assets are searchable from within seconds of ingest, and can be browsed and edited directly on a laptop or desktop using intuitive proxy-based video editing tools. Many customers do more than 80% of their editing using these proxy-based tools. These proxy tools also enable remote editing workflows. Advanced integration with leading NLEs allow proxy-based EDLs to be opened against the high-resolution material and finished. Produce and prepare media up to 4K/UHD resolution for broadcast and online at the same time- including video, graphics, stills and metadata. Content can easily be published to a rundown, playlist, control room or online platforms with the click of a button or automated rule.
Simplify using video and stills in your graphics
Viz One provides intuitive tools for your journalists and operators to search, preview, and add full motion, high-resolution video clips and images to your live graphics templates - from Viz Pilot and Viz Trio. Clips are both automatically transferred to Viz Engine and reviewed for house-keeping. Journalists and producers in the newsroom can order graphics from the creative department directly within Viz Pilot. The orders are forwarded to the creative department where they can be visualized and prioritized in task lists. The final graphics are automatically linked to the scene upon completion - making it very easy for the requestor to simply approve an order
Studio is where it all comes together. For most users, this is Viz One. Studio is a HTML5 web-based user interface for Viz One accessible from any desktop. It provides comprehensive access to the media and metadata in Viz One. This includes a fast search interface with easy access to assets. On the asset page, users can preview and edit media and metadata, as well as logs created from the Logger application. Users can also launch desktop applications for more specialized tasks such as editing in Avid, Final Cut Pro; or cataloguing in Logger. Studio features a drag and drop interface to upload media directly from the desktop. Uploads and transcodes can be monitored from the transfers page. Simple organization of media can be performed using collections such as folders, packages, programs, and series. Studio provides a view of tasks and task lists from the perspective of both the user and the asset which enables powerful task-based workflows. Administrators can perform common system configuration and manage the Viz One system directly from within the web interface.
Precut and Easycut
Precut and Easycut together enable doing more editing from the desktop. Several major customers do more than 80% of their editing using just Precut and Easycut.
Precut is a basic proxy video editing tool that is simple, reliable, effective and fast. It gives all of your staff easy access to browsing, clip selection and EDL creation from their existing Windows desktop without requiring high bandwidth access to media storage.
Easycut is a timeline based editing tool that uses proxy video. It enables your staff to use the most important functions of a non-linear editor in one user friendly package that can run on their ordinary Windows desktop without requiring high bandwidth access to media storage.
Users can easily open different video assets, create clips, and then add them to an Edit Decision List (EDL). Once the EDL is created, users have the option to trigger a render job for the EDL and create an entirely new asset or to send the EDL to a NLE workstation for further processing. Individual files or clips from files can also be sent to external destinations. During the render, the system will automatically perform retrieval of the high-resolution media from different storage tiers - performing partial file retrievals from an LTO-archive if needed - and then render the finished file while creating new new proxy media and a new asset.
Easycut is compatible with Precuts EDL format - so users can start lining up clips in Precut and then either continue in Easycut - or go directly to the a full NLE workstation. In all of these cases we are preserving the cuts, audio work, and effects - so users can start with the simplest tools for the edit and move up to more complex editing tool as the need arises.
Logger is a cataloguing tool to organize and add descriptive time-based information to assets in Viz One. The tool is used by loggers, cataloguers, archivists and journalists to add a wide number of different types of information such as archive metadata, compliance notes, edit notes, qc notes, scripts, highlights and subclipping. Loggers also supports the creation of video transmission packages to represent variants of video content for on-air use. Log entries are immediately added to the original media in Viz One and visible in Studio. Multiple users can work simultaneously with the same media. In Studio, logs are immediately visible on the asset’s Log tab. Log entries use the Vizrt Data Format specification - a standard adopted across all Vizrt applications. This enables powerful metadata components such as thesauri, directories, and dictionaries to be integrated into the metadata forms that Logger uses and searched in Studio.
Using the log information, users can also create video transmission packages without rendering media - as these package only reference existing media in the master assets. This saves disk space as it avoids unnecessary replications of any media. It also allows operators to address common compliance issues by just updating the segmentation of the package instead of doing time-consuming compliance edits.
Logger uses the REST API of Viz One exclusively and is backwards compatible with older Viz One versions.
Coder is our next generation transcoder. It is an integral part of Viz One as well as a standalone component that can be used with other Vizrt products such as Viz Engine.
Coder supports producing VOD variants for web and mobile distribution with resolutions up to 4K/UHD - including adding graphics. Users in Viz One simply select what destination they want and Coder transcodes all of the required variants. All configuration is done via web-based interfaces - so making changes to setup is very easy. Coder supports dynamic scheduling of jobs and can efficiently distribute VOD, Proxy or Live transcoding jobs on a server farm based on transcoder load and job requirements. Coder also uses 5 to 10 times lower disk IO than the previous generation of transcoder - since all variants are generated in a single job. For customers publishing in excess of 100 videos per day these efficiencies have significant cost benefits.
Coder also supports Live streaming and has been officially qualified by Akamai, a global leader in Content Delivery Network (CDN) services, ensuring full compatibility with Akamai’s Media Delivery Solutions. Using Viz Engine’s IP functionality, Coder can provide device adapted graphics streams, ensuring users relevant and beautiful graphics from their smartphone to their televisions. Coder uses the BlueFish444 Epoch 4K Supernova for SDI-ingest of live material. Coder is also compatible with most video-sharing platforms supporting RTMP ingest such as Youtube and Dailymotion.
Order Management tracks requests of media assets from editorial staff and the delivery of media assets by the creative staff. Built on top of Viz Pilot and Viz One, the system uses plug-in and API architectures to integrate with a central order management system. Users can access via a web interface or directly from inside the newsroom control system.
