The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), founded in 1884, is Ireland’s largest sporting organization. It is celebrated as one of the great amateur sporting associations in the world. It is part of the Irish consciousness and plays an influential role in Irish society that extends to promoting Gaelic games, including the traditional Irish sports of Hurling, Camogie, Gaelic Football, Gaelic Handball, and Rounders but also Irish culture.
The Challenge: In COVID times, it was vital to enhance live coverage with live AR graphics of the hugely popular Gaelic Games and add production value to one of RTÉ’s most important broadcasts without significantly increasing the resources needed.
The Solution: Viz Arena
Viz Arena was adopted into the workflow of the two graphics operators who traditionally work on RTÉ’s Gaelic Games outside broadcasts. Viz Arena enabled quick calibration with multiple camera feeds, meaning that RTÉ could present AR graphics from different angles within the stadium.

“Importantly, Viz Arena didn’t add to RTÉ’s costs of production or to the time and resources required for its match coverage. “That was a huge win,” says Grace Dinan, design operations lead at RTÉ.”
“The calibration process was straightforward too. We didn’t need any pitch side calibration,” explains Grace. “It was all done through the feed, which didn’t require any extra time or resources.”
